Sgt. Schumacher was a leader who tried to take care of his men the best he could. He always shared the cool aid sent to him from home to disguise the chemical taste of the water purifier " halazone" we had to drink. He could typically be found with his men in the field, trying to teach them what he knew. He became Seriously wounded and soon died when the point man walked into an ambush During Operation Bear Chain near Ap Vin An village .
